How do I access the Ad Blocker in Cubeless Island?
The Island Ad Blocker is built directly into Cubeless Island and is enabled by default. There are two ways to access it:
- Via the Control Center: Click the Control Center icon in the browser navigation bar. The Ad Blocker status (active or inactive) is shown here. Click on it to view details or manage settings.
- Via the browser navigation bar (recommended): Pinning the Ad Blocker to the browser navigation bar gives you a persistent, at-a-glance view of how many ads have been blocked on the current page without opening the Control Center.
Note: Because the Ad Blocker is on by default, it is already working in the background even before you pin or configure it. No setup is required to start blocking ads.
How do I pin or unpin the Ad Blocker to the browser navigation bar?
Pinning the Ad Blocker to the browser navigation bar is the fastest way to monitor blocked content while browsing.
-
To pin the Ad Blocker:
- Click the Control Center icon in the browser navigation bar.
- Locate the Ad Blocker option and select the pin action to add it to the browser navigation bar.
- Once pinned, a counter on the icon updates in real time to show the number of blocked ads on the current page.
-
To unpin the Ad Blocker:
- Right-click the Ad Blocker icon in the browser navigation bar.
- Select the unpin option from the browser navigation bar menu.
How do I disable the Ad Blocker for a specific site?
If the Ad Blocker is interfering with a website's functionality (for example, breaking login flows, hiding site content, or disrupting embedded media), you can turn it off for that site only without affecting other sites.
- Navigate to the site where you want to disable ad blocking.
- Open the Ad Blocker, either from the Control Center or the pinned browser navigation bar icon.
- Toggle the Ad Blocker off for the current site.
- The page will automatically refresh to apply the change.
- The change persists for that site across sessions.
- To re-enable blocking, return to the Ad Blocker menu and toggle it back on.
Note: If the page does not automatically refresh after disabling the Ad Blocker, manually refresh the page for the change to take effect.
Note: Disabling the Ad Blocker for a site is per-site and does not affect any other domains. Global ad blocking remains active everywhere else.
How do I view what the Ad Blocker is blocking on a page?
You can inspect a detailed list of every ad and tracker that has been blocked on the page you are currently viewing.
- Open the Ad Blocker from the Control Center or browser navigation bar icon.
- Click See all inside the Ad Blocker menu.
- A full list of blocked URLs and ad resources appears, specific to the current page.
- This list updates dynamically as new resources are blocked while you browse the page.
Note: The blocked items list resets each time you navigate to a new page. It reflects only what has been blocked during the current page session.
What statistics does the Ad Blocker provide?
The Ad Blocker tracks cumulative browsing statistics to show the overall impact of ad blocking on your experience.
- Total Ads Blocked: A running count of all ads and trackers blocked since you started using the Ad Blocker.
- Data Saved: The estimated amount of data (in megabytes or gigabytes) that was not downloaded because ads were blocked. This directly contributes to faster page load speeds.
- Time Saved: An estimate of how much time has been saved due to faster load times from not loading ad content.
- Top Ad Sites: A ranked list of the domains that have served the most ads and trackers to your browser over the last 30 days. This helps identify which sites are most ad-heavy in your browsing history.
What are the current limitations of the Ad Blocker?
The Island Ad Blocker is designed to be lightweight and automatic. The following capabilities are not currently supported:
- Custom filter lists: You cannot import or configure custom tracker block lists (for example, EasyList or uBlock-style filter rules).
- Element picker: There is no manual element picker to select and block specific page elements that the Ad Blocker has not already caught.
- Allowlist management: There is no centralized interface for reviewing or editing your per-site allowlist in bulk. Sites must be re-enabled individually from the Ad Blocker menu on each domain.
- Scriptlet injection or cosmetic filtering: Advanced filtering techniques used by some third-party ad blockers are not available.
Note: If you need to troubleshoot a site that is broken after enabling the Ad Blocker, see Common troubleshooting steps for Cubeless Island for guidance.
